Our school is blessed with a compassionate group of talented teachers who appreciate the legacy of this prestigious educational institution and are devoted to the holistic development of our students. Amiable and approachable, our teachers, or “aunties” as our students lovingly call them, do not hesitate to go that extra mile for every child. Our teachers are also encouraged to be up-to-date with the changing methodology in innovative teaching practices through workshops and in-service training programmes.

TEACHERS WHO GO THAT EXTRA MILE

Our teachers adopt various learning styles to cater to the needs of the students. Incorporation of technology in teaching, helps students assimilate lessons better. Mind mapping techniques, acronyms, creating models, help in the retention of what’s taught. Teachers render additional support to slow learners by reinforcing and strengthening positive learning. Worksheets and peer coaching have also proven to be beneficial. The teachers at Sishu Griha have access to the latest technology which facilitates research work and Powerpoint presentations.

TEACHER WORKSHOPS

Teacher development has been in focus since its inception four decades ago. The teachers attend both in-house workshops as well as workshops conducted outside the school. It is a matter of pride that our school has been in the forefront in guiding teachers into teacher training and development with The Teacher Foundation, Wipro Applying Thoughts in Schools (WATIS) programme, Schoolnet and IELTS.
These workshops focus not only on subjects to be taught but also on innovative teaching methods, development of higher order thinking skills in students, use of technology in classes, time management, child centric issues, sensitivity to students and creation of caring classrooms. Collaborative teaching is focused upon and the teachers are encouraged to attend subject workshops and pedagogical training. Teachers also attend workshops related to conducive classroom requirements such as Quality Circle Time, Child Psychology and sex education, value-based education and integrated multi-disciplinary approach to classrooms. The outcome of these workshops has encouraged shared teaching practices which include, peer teaching and peer observations, multiple intelligence lesson plans and activities across classes and also innovative teaching practices. Such practices create mutual appreciation and admiration and develop camaraderie among the faculty. This, in turn, develops a positive atmosphere in the teaching departments and the energy is exuded and reflected in the classrooms which is something Sishu Griha is proud of. We hope to continue to enhance this culture of teacher development with our new staff members in the future to add more finesse to the already existing group of multi-faceted faculty members.
