“Sishu Griha fulfilled my mother’s dream of making me a completely independent human being (because I am hearing impaired). Enrolling into this wonderful school was a turning point for my successful life. I was studying at a special needs school and I shifted because my mother wanted to wean me out of my communication using sign language and this school seemed like the perfect school for me. Though a hearing-impaired student, the teachers encouraged me to participate in all the activities such as dramas, dances and the Annual Days.”

“Home is where the heart is, they say. I say, that my heart belongs to Sishu Griha. Thirteen years is a very long time, and to have been in this school for this long was not only a privilege, but also an honour. As I write this piece, I have tears in my eyes, an ache in my heart and a longing to go back. Proud that I hail from Sishu Griha.
The school instilled in me a sense of discipline, for which I get praises wherever I go. I have learnt where to draw a line and when to voice my opinions; all thanks to my Alma Mater. ‘Thamasoma Jyothir Gamaya’ Yes indeed, you have brought us from darkness to the path of light and it is our duty to uphold your name and make you proud.”

“I once called my class teacher, “Amma” by mistake. While I suffered the ignominy of having all my classmates laugh at me, I consider this slip of tongue to be an eloquent portrayal of the esteem and affection in which the teachers of Sishu Griha were held by their students.
“The small classrooms and the favourable student- teacher ratio fostered a sense of belonging.”

“After graduating from Sishu Griha I have had to face many challenges at a different school, a different country and I owe so much to Sishu Griha for preparing me for them. Not a day goes by where I don’t miss the school, my friends and the teachers. It is truly the best thing that ever happened to me. There is such a close bonding between teacher and student that they make sure no student is left behind, and hold your hand all the way through. The teachers and staff in this school not only imprint in the minds of the students their daily lessons but also an everlasting set of values.”

“Sishu Griha saw me through perhaps the most turbulent and confusing years of my life; if there is a core value that I think defines Sishu Griha, it is this acceptance of people as they are and the willingness to work with them, warts and all. It is rare for an institution to encourage learning over success. It is perhaps for this reason that I got to do as many things in school as I did: dance, theatre, music, sport, debate—I was permitted to dabble in everything my heart desired, despite having been mediocre (at best) at most of them. This celebration of students’ interests, regardless of whether they brought home laurels or not, is a marker of the Sishu Griha way of being that I deeply cherish. One of the ways in which I find the stamp of my schooling permanently (and happily) imprinted on my behaviour is in the manner in which I understand concepts of ‘respect’ and ‘discipline’. I have come to associate respect with genuine consideration for others irrespective of their station in life, and discipline with pride in myself and my work. I have come to associate respect with genuine consideration for others irrespective of their station in life, and discipline with pride in myself and my work. While the top-class instruction we received in specific subjects must be acknowledged, I think it’s the values that the institution instils in its students that I have come back to at different moments with gratitude.”

“My children have surely benefitted from the humility, the grass root level learning and the teacher-children camaraderie that is so much a part of what Sishu Griha embodies. It is a unique school in the sense it caters to every type of student with equal care and it is a place where you see happy faces of the students. It is a place where teachers extend parental care to the children in addition to imparting knowledge. The school has always been open to parental involvement in every way possible.”

“They bounded into school every day, cheerily welcomed by their teachers, truly believing that the world is their oyster. Today, both my children have grown into well- adjusted teenagers, ready to take their place in society as caring, honest and productive citizens, and this is a testimony to the foundation that was laid for them at Sishu Griha.”

“Sishu Griha is ‘A House of Children’ in the true sense. The Montessori ethos of each child being important has organically percolated upwards to the older students and teachers. This is truly a precious feature and must be actively nurtured year after year. I always find the school a vibrant and joyful place. The school has retained its personal touch through carefully restricting its intake of students. Right from my first interactions with Sishu Griha, I have always seen older children being kind and helpful towards their younger counterparts”

“As the name Sishu Griha suggests it is truly a home for children where not only do the children feel welcome, but even parents feel a sense of comfort in approaching teachers and staff with their queries and worries. A simple school with a firm but loving hand, shapes each child to exhibit their skills.”

“Another laudable effort of Sishu Griha is including/ integrating our special needs children – educable Cerebral Palsy students with regular students. Many such students have enjoyed the regular school environment and now have settled in life. Thanks to Sishu Griha's 'Education for all' policy. The teachers are focused in nurturing the strengths of the students while granting time and space for them to bloom at their own pace.”

“Sishu Griha is one big family where teachers, students and parents share a very warm relationship. It was easy for me to strike a good rapport with my students and guide them. It gave me immense pleasure to see that these children were respectful, considerate and helpful, reflecting core values of Sishu Griha. A place where no one is left behind. I feel accepted and included, which brings the best out of me.”

“The best days of my life were spent in Sishu Griha, even the thought of which makes me feel vibrant and young. Usually the parents scare their children by saying ‘I will tell your teacher if you misbehave’, but at Sishu Griha it is just the opposite – if I scold my daughter, she tells me ‘I will tell my school aunty’”.

“We have been a part of the school from its infancy. We have been given the freedom to bring in our own methods of teaching within the boundaries of school philosophy and this has empowered the children to explore their limitless strengths.”

“The work culture is great with excellent peer interaction. The child-friendly ambience, the creatively challenging tasks ahead, the empathic attitude of the staff members and the interesting cultural milieu were very satisfying. Classroom discussions created dynamism in the teacher student relationship.”

“A major change that I witnessed was the acceptance and judicious use of technology in various aspects of teaching and evaluation, both within and outside the classroom. This demonstrated the school’s efforts to innovate and keep up with the times. The school also took the initiative to upgrade the computer skills of the teachers to help them align to these changes smoothly.”
